The Christian Bible speaks much of God’s love. The first thing most people think of when hearing of this is God’s love for mankind. But this is not the starting place of love in the Bible. And God’s love for people is not a basis on which it could be said “God is love” if God was already love in His very essence, before people were created. This seminar will explore the earliest reference in the Bible to love and explore the intra-trinitarian love of God. Comparison will be made to the Muslim concept of God and Quranic versions on some key Biblical passages. Comparison will also be made of the Biblical and Quranic concepts of atonement which opens the door to a loving God receiving sinful people into His fellowship.

The goal is to give a picture of the what the Trinity looks like beyond the typical theological proof-texting for why we believe that Jesus is God. Participants should gain a confidence not only that the Trinity is a Biblical concept but that it is essential to the gospel, that God is more glorious for being trinitarian (rather than unitarian), that the Trinity can and should be a vital part of our devotional life as we grow in relationship with Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We hope that this will also give confidence when speaking with people of other non-trinitarian religions.
