Session #1 by Adam Simnowitz: Mistranslating the Bible for Muslim Readers--How Some of Today's Translators Have Attempted to Corrupt God's Inspired Word
In this session Adam will show, by multiple examples, how some of today's modern Bible translators have reduced their translations of God's divinely-inspired Word into Islamic-friendly literature. He will also explain how these mis-translations are largely due to the now firmly-entrenched idea of "dynamic equivalence" or "functional equivalence" among Bible translators and Bible societies. Much of the material will be drawn from Adam's recently completed thesis, "Muslim Idiom Translation" which is available for download here: Muslim Idiom Translations
Session #2 by Sam Alvarado: The Bible, Language, and Translation
The complexity of language makes translation issues appear to be insurmountable. In this session Sam Alvarado, who is a professional translator, will review what some of these issues are and their nature from a layman¹s perspective. He will then consider some of the implications of Scripture and inferences that can be made concerning translation. The presentation will be from a biblical worldview and the assumption of God's sovereign nature.
