God and Mythology –1) Does God Exist? 2) Is Christianity a Myth?
Speakers: Pastor Jonathan Swift and Pastor Ben Edwards
1) Does God Exist?
Pastor Jonathan Swift's talk will start out with an overview of the various most common categories of philosophical arguments for the existence of God made over the centuries. Then he will conclude by making an appeal to the heart of my listeners based on an a priori knowledge of God described in Romans 1:19-20 "For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them..."
2) Is Christianity a Myth?
Drawing from author John Oswalt's The Bible Among the Myths, Pastor Ben Edwards asserts that while other ancient literatures all see reality in essentially the same terms of one-ness with the earth, the Bible differs radically on all the main points and cannot reasonably considered mythology. Rather, the Bible asserts a two-ness as a corrective to those who reject the Old Testament’s testimony about a transcendent God who breaks into time and space and reveals himself in and through human activity.
