Exodus 2:23-25
The Hebrews (Israelites, "Children of Israel") spent a total of 430 years in Egypt. During the majority of those years, they were slaves. Taskmasters ruled their lives and hard labor was their plight. A glimmer of hope for release was first raised at the moment of Moses’ rescue by the princess of Egypt, but his life appeared to be swallowed up by the culture of the ruling class.
